I had an amazing day today. In the morning, I attended the craft fair put on by Nanaimo Fairs at the Legion 256 hall. I managed to sell a few cards in the morning; more importantly, though, I had many opportunities to talk to people about their concerns and encourage them to participate in this year’s election. So many people – especially young people – don’t believe their vote matters. One of my greatest hopes is that we can change this attitude. We must begin to engage people in dialogue if we are ever going to make lasting, effective change.
Just when I was starting to feel disheartened, a group of young people inspired me. I’m one of the adult helpers in a Saturday afternoon youth program at Departure Bay Baptist. We meet from 12:30 to 2:30 for Bible Study. After the formal study time, the group will do something together in the community. By the time I got back, my campaign signs were ready and one of the leaders had taken some of the teens out to start putting them up. Pictures to come, as I didn’t have a camera with me.
I want to use this blog to get dialogue going about the education issues that are on the minds of the citizens of Nanaimo. Please feel free to contact me any time! My Twitter and Facebook are linked under the ‘Get Involved’ page tab. My email is cycworker11@gmail.com

I have known Tania for many years. Over the years we have worked together on many social justice issues and become friends. Tania would make an effective trustee. She understands the educational issues that children and youth want to talk about. I am voting for Tania Brzovic. Please join me on November 15th.
