On Monday, I attended a presentation at the Child Development Centre. The Nanaimo Early Years Leadership Team and the Greater Nanaimo Early Years Partnership gave us a presentation on their work. It was a great reminder of the need for agencies to work together to support children and families. At the meeting, we were asked to adopt the following statement, which I am pleased to do:
If elected I commit to keeping informed about issues affecting children and families and to promoting a child-friendly community and I ask specifically to receive regular updates from the Nanaimo Early Years Leadership Team.”
I am very proud of the work that School District 68 has done so far in this area. Our Strong Start Centres are a wonderful resource. Many parents have told me how much value they have received from Welcome To Kindergarten events. I have volunteered at Ready, Set, Learn events, and I’m familiar with the Mother Goose program. I believe we must do all we can to maintain these programs and continue to actively participate in the Early Years Partnership. Over the final weeks of the campaign, I’ll be meeting with a few members of the committee to discuss ways to strengthen our relationships. Collaboration is vital to success in supporting at risk children and families.

We were also shown the following video. I was very grateful we had a received a link to it, as I had been trying to take notes on my i-pad, but I couldn’t get it to work. I tried everything, including seeing if I could get other programs to work, but it was a no-go.
