As I’ve been talking to people about the election, I’ve discovered that there is some confusion about when to vote, where to vote, and most importantly, who can vote.

I want to address the ‘who’ question first, because it is this topic that has the most confusion. I have met people from Lantzville –  and  even  a few from Ladysmith –  who don’t realize they can vote for School Trustee. Both of these communities are part of School District 68, which encompasses Lantzville to Ladysmith. Anyone who meets the following criteria can vote:

  • At least 18 years old on voting day, November 15
  • A Canadian citizen
  • BC resident for 6 months prior to the election
  • Resident of your community (Lantzville, Nanaimo or Ladysmith)

Next, a list of when and  where to vote:

Advanced Polls are open Wednesday, November 5, 2014, and Wednesday November 12th, 2014, from 8:00 am to 8:00 pm at the following locations

  • Lantzville: The District Office, 7192 Lantzville Road – 2nd Floor, Lantzville, BC
  • Nanaimo: Bowen Auditorium, 500 Bowen Road.
  • Ladysmith: City Hall, 410 Esplanade

The general election date is November 15, 2014. Polls are again open from 8:00 am to 8:00 pm. Locations are as follows:

  • Lantzville: Costin Hall, 7232 Lantzville Road, Lantzville, BC
  • Ladysmith: Frank Jameson Community Centre – 810 – 6th Avenue, Ladysmith, B.C.
  • Nanaimo: Multiple locations as follows.. see map here fpr details
    • McGirr Elementary, Frank J. Ney Elementary, Oliver Woods Community Centre, Departure Bay Activity Centre, Wellington Community Hall, Nanaimo Alliance Church, Nanaimo Aquatic Centre, Georgia Avenue Elementary, Chase River Elementary, City of Nanaimo Service & Resource Centre, Protection Island Fire Hall

I am unable to find information regarding Gabriola Island. I know that residents of the Island are eligible to vote for RDN/Island Trust positions, as well as School Trustee positions. If you contact City Hall in Nanaimo they should be able to assist with information about polling stations.

Tomorrow I will post details on the All Candidates meetings that are coming up over the next two weeks, as well as the broadcasting of the short clips many candidates did for Shaw Cable.
